Welcome back, Room 21 Families!
I hope everyone had a relaxing and fun two week break! I definitely did!
This week, though short, was packed! We started Tuesday off by having a Smart (re)Start Day. The students were placed into mixed fourth grade groups and rotated between different stations. Mrs. Ullmark's station including making straw rockets, Miss Yoshioka's station had students building lego tracks, Mrs. Wooster(Our Read 180 teacher) conducting a Hip Hop dance class, and lastly, I had the students make tissue paper art. The stations lasted until lunch. The reason we had this day was to get students excited for the last half of the year. It also gave teachers an opportunity to teach things we may not normally have time for during normal days. The kids seemed to enjoy it! After lunch, we had STEM team building excercises.
In math, we have continued onward with fractions. We have also been working on benchmark fractions, and using them to determine how big or small other fractions are. On Thursday, we had four fraction mini stations. The kids had a lot of fun!
We have also started reading about Early Explorers during Social Studies. After this unit, we will go on the California Missions. Hopefully, your child's San Juan Bautista mission field trip permission slip made it home. Please sign and return it as soon as possible. If you're interested in joing as a chaperone, please make a note on the back. I cannot guarantee a spot for everyone. I will let you know ahead of time if you will be able to join us as a chaperone.
We are finishing up our Animal Expository writing. Have your child show you their Google Drive to see what they have written so far! We are in need of tissues, if you are able to donate.
Lastly, I have made a Twitter handle. If you would like another way to see what the class is up to, feel free to follow @MissYoungOst.
Have a great weekend!
