Can you believe we are already in February? Time is just flying by! Here in room 21 we have been working very hard. Here are some things that we have been doing:
In math, we have been working on fractions. Fractions is always an extremely difficult unit for fourth graders. Please encourage your child to ask for help if it is needed- something that can be difficult for the students to do at this age. Duane Habecker video's on Youtube are very helpful to review lessons. Duane has a video for every lesson.
We have continued to work on the California Missions in social studies. We will begin working on our Minecraft missions shortly.
For our writing, we have continued to work on informative writing. We are currently wrapping up our latest writing about Martin Luther King Jr. and Ruby Bridges.
This Wednesday, February 7th, is Global Play Day. For those that have been at Oster, you might remember this from previous years. Global Play Day is a day where all the classes spend an hour or two playing board games, card games, arts and crafts and more. Students are welcome to bring games to share, as long as they are not electronic(no batteries). This encourages students to work together and "unplug".
This Thursday, the 8th, we will be decorating our Art Vista masks in the Makerspace. This will be taking place from 8:30-9:10. Parent volunteers are encouraged as we will be using hot glue guns and other tricky materials. Please email me if you are able to come. Thank you!
Valentine's Day is approaching and I know parents are wondering if there is a party. For Valentine's Day, we keep it very simple. Students are allowed to bring cards, but they must bring cards for each child in the class. I will be sending home a class list this Wednesday in our Wednesday envelopes. Students may also leave the names blank and pass them out to the class. Students will be allowed to pass out cards during our SSR time. I do try to incorporate some fun Valentine's math games and things like that, but we do not have a party.
Please remind students that it is important to treat one another with kindness and respect. We have had a few minor issues in the classroom with talking nicely to one another and being kind.
Have a wonderful week!
