Wow! What a week! This week was definitely not your usual week in fourth grade! We started out the week by taking a field trip to Mission San Juan Bautista. It was a great bus ride! The students were able to travel the grounds with the help of our lovely chaperones. WE looked at the beautiful church, stables, and housing areas. The kids were blown away at how different life was back then. They had a wonderful time. A big thank you to our chaperones!
Wednesday we had Global Play Day. GPD is a day where we encourage students to put down the electronics and play board games, draw, or even make up their own games. The kids loved it! I saw chess games going on, Uno games and even the card version of Oregon Trail(Now that was a blast from the past for me!). The kids played together very well and really enjoyed their time.
We have continued to work on building our Minecraft Missions. Students are building the fictitious 22nd mission with a group of six. We are also working on Mission Trading Cards where students draw the mission on one side and list facts about it on the other. They will be laminated.
In math, we have continued to go forward with fractions. Though it has been a bit of a struggle, students have been catching on. As a reminder, please go to my links page if you need any help with the math. Youtube is also a great resource for assistance when necessary.
As February is Black History Month, we have been reading about important civil rights leaders of the past. While doing this, we have been practicing our summarizing skills as well by writing short summaries on the articles that were read.
I apologize that the math tests have not been returned, I'm crossing my fingers for next Wednesday. They really do take a long time to grade!
I have had a few students ask about Valentine's Day. We do not do a part for Valentine's Day, but students are welcome to exchange Valentine's. Next week, I will be sending home a reminder of the rules for Valentine's Day. I ask that students bring a card(if they choose to bring cards) for every student in the class. We have 31 students. Please do not put names on the cards, as it causes the passing out process to be quite slow. Students will be able to pass them on during our silent reading time.
Next week, we will be beginning to work on Science. This will be a time where Social Studies and Science do end up overlapping. Speaking of science, I apologize for misplacing the permission slips from the first round of science club. We went to pick students for the second round of science club, but they seem to have been misplaced. I will be sending them out again, please return them if your child is interested in joing the second round.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Have a great weekend!
