Good afternoon Room 21 families!
Wow! I cannot believe that we've had our first few weeks of school already fly by!
We have been very, very busy!
This week, we started our Flex Reading program. Students are placed in groups, with either their homeroom teacher or another fourth grade teacher. All teachers are working on the same skill sets, but are presenting the work differently to reach the needs of all children.
In math, we are approaching our first mid-module test. This will take place on Tuesday, September 12th. Please help your students by reminding them to practice their math facts and place values at home.
We have been focusing on the 8 parts of speech during grammar. We have covered nouns, adjectives, and adverbs. It is important students understand the fundamentals of each part of speech so that they can utilize them correctly in their writing.
Today, we have our first visit to the Oster Maker Space lab! We are working on group collaboration superhero badges. We will be creating badges and then adding music and sound to them.
Next week, we will have our first PAC class with Coach Nyguyen. If students were chosen to participate in the Recess Leading program, they will have their first training after school on Wednesday, September 13th after school. We will also have our first Sign Language class with Mrs. Blake from DHOH.
Students are able to check out classroom library books. They must first check it out by writing in our Check In/Out Binder, and then bring it to my attention to sign off on. Students are responsible for taking care of their books. If they are damaged, they are to replace them as soon as possible. They are also responsible for remembering to check the library book back in, again using the Check In/Out Binder.
As I have gotten to know this class, I have learned that they all really enjoy each other's company. While that makes it nice for things such as group projects, it has really caused a chatting problem in class. Please talk to your child about the appropriate times they should or should not be talking. It has been causing major disruptions in class which is not respectful the other students and myself.
Following directions has been another difficult point in this classroom. Please remind your child that when directions are given, they should be followed quickly, quietly, and respectfully. This means there should not be any arguments.
Lastly, we are still very much in need of a volunteer to cut boards for our California Salt Dough map. Our project will also need volunteers to help in class on September 22nd at about 1:15. Please let me know if you are interested in cutting boards, or volunteering in class.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
