Hello Room 21 Families,
We had such a fun and busy week! We started out the week taking ELA benchmark exams. Though this is not fun, it is important for that we take these tests as they help me have a better understanding of where the students are, as well as what I need to review with them. The kids did a wonderful job persevering and trying their best!
In math, we have started long division. We learned several different ways to visually solve division problems. We have also been learning how to solve division using the standard algorithm aka the "normal/common" way. The module we are currently in is extremely long, so it will be a little while before we have our next test.
We have been continuing to read Pax, our Global Read Aloud book. This week we had the wonderful opportunity of having a Google Hangout with our classroom reading buddies in Chicago. We were able to ask the Fifth grade class questions about Pax, and they asked us questions. It was such an awesome experience! The kids really enjoyed it. We can't wait to do it again!
On Thursday, we met with our 2nd grade buddies in Mrs. Gigli's class. We did a Halloween craft making pumpkin and Frankenstein puppets. Check out Class Dojo for pictures!
Friday was so much fun! The rain kept at bay, and we were able to participate in our costume parade. There was a great parent turn out. I would like to give a special thank you to my room parents, Isabelle's mom, Marissa and Hari's mom, Subhapriya. They did a fantastic job putting together our Halloween party. Thank you!!! Thank you to all the parents that came to the party and jumped in to help! We have the best parents in Room 21!
One last important request. I am in need of a parent/s to help with Project Cornerstone. This is a wonderful program where a parent reads a picture book to the students with a lesson. We then have a class discussion focusing on that lesson, and then we do a simple craft to tie it all together. This happens in the classroom about once a month, and we are currently a little behind in lessons. Please contact me if you are willing to be in charge/help out with this. It is a great program, and would be greatly appreciated!
I hope you have a wonderful and safe Halloween! I will see you all Tuesday.
